Brusie Funeral Home is a funeral home in Chico, California, located in downtown Chico. The home provides burial services, cremation services, funeral and memorial services, pre-need planning, reception and catered events, kosher catering, veterans services including military honors, certified celebrant services, and body donation coordination. Memorial diamonds and human composting are available through partner providers. Brusie coordinates directly with Chico Cemetery and Glen Oaks Memorial Park for interment and committal services.
The building that houses Brusie Funeral Home was constructed circa 1889 as a private family residence and rooming house and has operated continuously as a funeral facility on the same site since approximately 1904 — making it one of the longest-running funeral service locations in downtown Chico. The structure presents a Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival aesthetic, characterized by white stucco walls, a red tile roof, and arched windows.
Warren Pope Brusie and Helen Brusie joined the business in 1941 and formally established Brusie Funeral Home the following year. Following Warren Pope Brusie's death in 1970, his son Warren Albert Brusie assumed management at age 27. Third-generation family members Marc Brusie and Amy Brusie joined the firm in 1990 and 1992, respectively. The location also houses a functioning miniature Model T Ford hearse, a rare historical artifact maintained on the premises.
The facility includes a chapel, reception and event space, identification viewing rooms, and private viewing accommodations. Spanish-language services are available on-site.
Brusie Funeral Home does not operate an on-site cemetery or crematory. Pet cremation is not offered. Grief therapy, legal services, and estate planning are not provided.
Families frequently recognize individual staff members by name in reviews and consistently note staff availability and responsiveness throughout the arrangement process. Reviewers also note staff follow-up during bereavement, including connections to mental health support.
