Funeral Homes in the Chico, California Metro Area

The Chico, California metro area is served by four locations offering burial, cremation, funeral and memorial services, cemetery property, and related end-of-life services. These locations are distributed across the city, from North Chico along the Esplanade corridor to downtown Chico and the southern and eastern reaches of the city. Services available across the market include traditional burial, cremation, pre-need planning, veterans services with military honors, ash scattering, and interment in both private cemetery lots and mausoleum structures. Families in Chico and surrounding Butte County communities have access to both funeral home and cemetery options within the market.

  • Affordable Mortuary is a funeral home located in North Chico on Esplanade. Established in 1993 under the name Sorensen's Affordable Mortuary, the business relocated to its current address in 2005 and adopted its present name. The facility includes a chapel and private viewing rooms, and the home coordinates directly with Chico Cemetery and Glen Oaks Memorial Park for interment and committal services. Spanish-language services are available on-site.
  • Brusie Funeral Home is a funeral home in downtown Chico, operating on a site with continuous funeral service history since approximately 1904. The business was established by Warren Pope Brusie and Helen Brusie in 1941 and has remained in the Brusie family across three generations. The facility includes a chapel, reception and event space, and private viewing rooms, and offers an extended range of services including kosher catering, certified celebrant services, and veterans services with military honors. The location also maintains a functioning miniature Model T Ford hearse, a rare historical artifact on the premises.
  • Chico Cemetery is a cemetery with an on-site crematory located in the Avenues neighborhood of Chico, on land historically platted as Chico Vecino by city founder John Bidwell in 1887. Established in 1852, it is one of the oldest continuously operating cemeteries in Northern California and is recognized on the City of Chico Historic Resources Inventory as a contributing landmark. The grounds include dedicated veterans and Catholic sections, a mausoleum, cremation gardens and niches, and two designated cremation areas: the Garden of Reflection and the Garden of Trinity, opened in 2023. Notable interments include John and Annie Bidwell, founders of the city of Chico, and Major Ted W. Lawson, a participant in the 1942 Doolittle Raid over Tokyo.
  • Glen Oaks Memorial Park is a cemetery located in the southern region of Chico, established in 1959 by Warren Pope Brusie and Helen Brusie as an expansion of Brusie Funeral Home's operations. The park is designed as a modern memorial park utilizing flat bronze markers, and its grounds include a mausoleum, cremation gardens and niches, and dedicated veterans, Catholic, and Jewish sections. The Veteran's Court of Honor serves as the site for local Memorial Day services. The park features the Fountain of Tranquility, identified as the largest water fountain in Butte County, located within the cremation garden area.

Families selecting among these locations typically consider factors including proximity to their home or community, whether they need a funeral home with an on-site chapel and reception space or a cemetery with direct interment capabilities, and whether specific services such as an on-site crematory, veterans honors, or Spanish-language support are required. Some locations coordinate with partner cemeteries or crematories for services not available on-site, while others offer those capabilities directly. Facility type varies across the market, from full-service funeral homes with reception and event space to memorial parks without indoor service rooms.

My sister and I recently visited the Chico Cemetery on May 24th, 2026, to put flowers on our loved one’s graves. We were extremely pleased to see that the gravesites are being very well maintained. The entire cemetery looked very nice and we appreciate that the resting place of our departed family members is being well cared for. Thank you!

My wife passed away on April 9, 2026, the care and respect that was given to my wife by the two “collectors” for her body were simply amazing and very much appreciated. The mortuary manager was also very respectful and answered very question I had. Everyone at the mortuary made a very difficult and challenging time very easy and they have been checking in on me from time to time to make sure I am alright. I would highly recommend this mortuary and their team.
